Panaji: State Election Commission on Saturday announced that the Zilla Panchayat elections in Goa would be held on December 12, while counting of votes will take place on December 14.
State Election Commissioner Choka Ram Garg told reporters in Panaji that the elections for Zilla Panchayat constituencies would be held on December 12 from 8 am till 5 pm.
He said that the code of conduct begins in the state from immediate effect and will continue till Deember 14, which is the date for counting of votes.
A total of 1,237 polling booths spread over 50 constituencies will stage the upcoming ZP polls, in which 203 candidates are in fray.
The elections for the ZP constituencies was originally scheduled to be held on March 22 but was postponed to March 24, because of a clash of dates between the elections and PM Narendra Modi’s “Mann ki baat” announcement to hold the “janata curfew” on the same day.
The election on March 24 was postponed further after lockdown due to COVID19 outbreak was imposed across the country.
