Panaji: The upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections are likely to be held on December 13 as per the earlier schedule, with the Code of Conduct expected to be announced on November 18–19.
State Election Commissioner Menino D’Souza refused to divulge the date of the elections but said that preparations are in full swing. He said that the Code of Conduct may be announced anytime from now.
There were apprehensions that the ZP election might be postponed due to a petition pending before the High Court. The Election Commission will be filing an affidavit before the High Court tomorrow, when the case will be heard.
The Commission will have to explain the logic behind the reservations that were announced recently.
Sources stated that the ZP elections will be held on December 13.
