Woman from Maharashtra arrested by Goa police in connection with Railway job scam

Bicholim: Goa Police on Monday arrested a woman accused at Kolhapur (Maharashtra) for defrauding a person to the tune of Rs 20 lakh under the pretext of giving job in the Indian Railways.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Bicholim) Jivba Dalvi on Monday said that the accused Priya Ajay Yadav from Phulewadi, Kolhapur (Maharashtra) acting on a complaint by a local woman, who had accused her of duping to the tune of Rs 20 lakh.

Dalvi said that the second accused involved in this case is police constable Rohan Venji, who is already suspended from the services and his bank accounts are frozen.

As per the complaint lodged at Bicholim police station on August 22, 2024, both the accused — Priya and Rohan —  with their common intention cheated and duped the complainant and others for Rs. 20,70,000 on the pretext of giving a job in railways.

 In this connection a case under sections 420 r/w 34 of  IPC was registered, he said.
Dalvi said that the modus operandi of the accused lady was that she told the complainant that she had a plot at Kolhapur near the railway station and the said plot was being requested by railway authorities and in return railway authorities assured her 10 jobs in the railway department and few shops. “Further the  complainant was taken to Kolhapur railway station and was randomly shown a  plot near Kolhapur railway station and the complainant believed her,” the DySP said.
After coming back, the complainant initially paid Rs. 10 lakhs to accused Priya Ajay Yadav at her Bordem (Bicholim) flat for providing two railway jobs to her children.
“After a few days accused Priya Yadav took more Rs. six lakhs from complainant saying that same is required to do paper work and also occasionally started demanding more money. Overall the complainant ended up paying Rs. 20 lakhs to the accused,” he said.
Dalvi said that during the course of investigation, the involvement of Police constable Rohan Venji was found in the crime after which he was placed under suspension and he has been served with notice for appearance by the police.
He said that during the investigation revealed that accused lady Mrs.Priya Yadav had duped many residents of Bicholim for tune for more than  Rs one Crore on pretext of giving job/shops in Railways.
The accused lady upon registration of the crime, remained absconded and till date was untraceable, he said.

Further Bicholim Police Station formed  under supervision of SDPO jivba consisting of PSI Vikesh Hadfadkar, PC Vishal Parab and LPC  Smita Popkar was deputed to proceed for investigation in Maharashtra and by using technical surveillance and intelligence  accused lady Mrs.Priya Ajay Yadav was traced at Phulewadi Kolhapur Maharashtra where she was hiding for almost two months and was placed under arrest in this crime.

During the course of investigation, vehicles such as Hyundai Venue car with reg no: GA11-A-7037,Hyundai Grand I10 car with reg no: GA11-A-6001, Vespa scooter with reg no: GA11-J-7291 & Activa scooter with reg no: GA-04-P-0322 of total w/Rs 18,00,000/- were seized from the accused persons.
This entire operation was carried out by the police team comprising of  PI Dinesh Gadekar, PSI Vikesh Hadfadkar, PC Vishal Parab, LPC Smita Popkar under the supervision of SDPO Bicholim Shri.Jivba Dalvi and overall guidance of SP North IPS Shri Akshat Kaushal.
The accused lady was produced before the court and has been remanded to 07 days police custody.

Further investigation is in progress.
