Adv. Aires Rodrigues has today demanded that the Goa Government immediately withdraw the unlawful police security being given to former Transport Minister and Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Adv. Rodrigues has pointed out that in an unprecedented, very high-handed and arbitrary decision the Goa Government continues providing police security to the former Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar despite he having ceased to be a Minister on September 24th last year.
Drawing the Chief Secretary’s attention that Pandurang Madkaikar over the last one year is having a security of around seven police personnel around the clock, Adv. Rodrigues in his letter has stated that this has been a huge financial burden on an already cash strapped State and that the Goa Police which is short staffed has been assigned for the security of Pandurang Madkaikar which he is by law not entitled to.
Adv. Rodrigues has stated that the security cover is given on the basis of threat perception but for former Minister Pandurang Madkaikar the Police security has become a status symbol and is merrily enjoying this state sponsored security further burdening an already depleted State exchequer.
Adv. Rodrigues has further stated that the Police personnel assigned to Pandurang Madkaikar have been reduced to medical attendants taking care of the ailing former Minister besides guarding the huge palacial bungalow at Old Goa adjacent to the Basilica of Bom Jesus built illegally by Pandurang Madkaikar in total contravention of law.
Adv. Rodrigues has urged the Chief Secretary to direct that this unwarranted and unlawful Police security given to Pandurang Madkaikar be immediately withdrawn and that an inquiry be ordered as to how he is illegally given this facility to which he now as MLA is not entitled.
Pointing out that the government must at all times function strictly within the framework of law and cannot be enlarging largesse for political expediency at the taxpayer’s expense, Adv. Rodrigues in his letter has sought that the State government must also recover from Pandurang Madkaikar the total expenditure incurred on his police security over the last one year.
