Porvorim: TMC leader Sandeep Vazarkar, an accused in the infamous Serula Communidade land scam was arrested by Mapusa police. The Serula land grabbing case had gained limelight after Sandeep Vazarkar along with his brother, Shivdas Vazarkar were found to be the main accused. The present arrest is expected to open up links to many more land grabbing cases in and around Porvorim. The Serula matter had created an impact in the Goa Assembly after the former Porvorim MLA, Shri Rohan Khaunte & former Curtorim MLA, Shri. Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco repeatedly raised the issue demanding investigation & arrest of the accused. Shri Khaunte has been vociferous about increasing instances of land grabbings happening in Porvorim & surrounding areas. Plotting of the land without proper permissions was also another issue raised by him.
The Serula case was also enquired into by Enforcement Directorate which had issued provisional attachment order to attach 7,975 square metres of land belonging to Vazarkar and the other members of his family under the provisions of Section 5 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
The FIR was lodged with Goa police under section 419, 420, 467 and 471 of IPC against the accused.
Sources within the government feel that Vazarkar’s arrest will open up a Pandora’s box of related cases.
Incidentally, Vazarkar was granted bail by local court on Wednesday mid-night.
