Panaji: Chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday that Goan students can be a part of the space missions in future with the kind of training opportunities made in the state.
“I sometimes think, why cant be the Goan students be a part of space missions in future, considering the kind of skilling that is available in the state,” Sawant said virtually addressing 60,000 students from various schools.
The chief minster was speaking on the topic “career guidance and safety from cyber crime.”
Sawant pointed out that the front dome of Chandrayaan was manufactured by Kineco company, which is a Goan firm.
Sawant said that the state government as a part of central government’s skilling program is working to ensure that Goan students excel in Research, Innovation and Information Technology sectors.
During an interaction, the chief minister emphasised on the thrust given on skilling of the students through various courses introduced in the educational institutes.
Appealing the teachers to help students in deciding their career choices, Sawant said that there are twelve Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Goa which provide 14-15 different type of courses.
He said that the school teachers should give personal attention to individual student and help him in deciding the career, even before he is in tenth standard.
Sawant said that the students should know what kind of career opportunities that are available and also about the competitive examinations like Goa Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission and UPSC.
“The student should start preparing for competitive examination from tenth standard onwards. The students from the states like Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh start preparing for competitive examinations from tenth standard and after studying for five years, they appear for the examination,” he said.
The chief minister said that the parents from the rural area are not aware about the career opportunities available for their children. He said that the teachers should play an important role in informing the parents about these opportunities.
Sawant pointed out that for the economically weaker students there are scholarships available which will help them to continue their studies.
