When whatsapp message travels faster than sound, light By Rupesh Samant

I salute to the spirit of some people who were busy forwarding the message about the possible new cabinet headed by Vishwajit Rane. The first day of lockdown was spent only clarifying that there is no change in the government “at least till now.”

I tend to end the sentence with “at least till now” as politics is unpredictable, fluid, volatile, opportunistic and I have no authority or connect to know whether there is really something boiling politically in Goa government.

But, for sure, first day of lockdown had, at least 50 people asking me “is it true?”

Such messages travel faster than the speed of sound or light. And they travel from all the directions. I got calls from my family members, colleagues and even people from far off places like Mumbai and Delhi, trying to confirm whether Dr Pramod Sawant is being replaced with someone else.

I answered them as per my capability and most of them were not convinced. They felt that I have no logic in ruling out instability in the current government. There were some who were convinced that there will be change in leadership, and when they found me, not subscribing to their views, they hang on the phone saying “you are not telling the truth.”

When coronavirus is knocking our doors and we are huddled inside,  I think our priority should to tackle the menace. I am not in favour or against the change in government, because my view does not matter for anyone in government.

So, I would rather concentrate my strength on how we can fight back COVID-19 which is touching lives of more than 100 people in Goa everyday.

Also, one good educational message on COVID-19     or good news on how to tackle virus, finds no traction in the online world. But if I type a message saying “government is in danger, Sawant might be toppled”, I am sure, the same message will go around the world and be sent to me again by someone.

Disclaimer: I don’t disagree that government formations should be point of discussion. But, it’s not the right time.
