Canacona: Despite being in the year 2019, the residents of Cotigao and certain areas of Poinguinim panchayat has Indian Post as the only means for communication.
With the BSNL services being not in service in these areas and mobile range of private companies like Idea and Vodafone crashing for last several days, the people living in the areas of Cotigao and Poinguinim have Indian Post as the only option.
“We have to travel several kilometers just to catch a range for mobile. Or else we are out of communication,” said Shivkautuk Desai, a local youth. He said that despite several representations to the BSNL, the tower has not been installed.
As per Sham Desai and Siddharth Desai, the people living in this area have been always left out of the mainstream due to lax attitude of the government authorities.
“When we talk of Digital India and e-initiatives, why is that we don’t have as basic as 2G connectivity? Aren’t we part of India,” he questioned.
The affected parts do not only include Cotigao village panchayat but also villages like Dabel and Amone of Poinguinim village panchayat.
The locals including Rajesh Velip and Shrikant Velip narrated how several times they have missed important messages due to their inaccessibility.
