Margao: The fears are expressed that Fatorda and Margao might face worst ever situation, if Fomento Green and Waste Management Services stops treating the garbage at Sonsodo after October 31.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai who had protested at Sonsodo site on Thursday during the visit of Science Technology and Waste Management minister Michael Lobo said that there is no opposition for remediation of garbage but the question remains as to what will happen if Fomento gives up on the plant.
He said that the State government should first spell out its immediate short-term measures to tackle the situation that would arise if company gives up.
On Friday morning, Sardesai took on to twitter to announce: “We support remediation and it was me and Manohar Parrikar who started it. But immediate issue is collection and processing of daily waste. Who will do it if Fomento gives up? Who will remove them as Court ordered not to dispossess them. These are problems Michael Lobo must answer.”
Sardesai also said “Michael Lobo approaches Sonsodo without any transparency. Clueless to what will happen if the concessionaire, who has Court protection against dispossession, stops collecting and processing garbage. He mocks CM led HPCC mandated for the purpose. What next?.”
While Lobo has said that he would be able to convince the company not to give up from October 31, Sardesai quoted Lobo’s statement to say “four times he met with Chairman of the company that has sued MMC and extracted restraining orders against dispossession. Thus holding city to ransom. What has happened during these four meetings? Why the secrecy? Any deal?.”
