Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday appealed the society to come together and defeat the forces that is trying to create divide on religious lines.
Sawant was addressing a function organised by Pillar Pilgrimage Centre at Pillar village near Panaji on the occasion of Christmas festival.
“There are some people who try to create division in the society based on caste and religion. We have to come together and defeat these forces,” he said, without naming anyone.
The chief minister said that Goa has always maintained communal harmony and its track record indicates it from the time of liberation in the year 1961.
“If you see the other states, there are fights between different communities during the festival. This has never happened in Goa and we should not allow it to happen here,” he said.
Pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a Christmas function and even addressed the nation on the occasion, Sawant said that the vision of Vikasit Bharat can be achieved only when entire society works collectively.
He said that PM Modi has spoken about four pillars for nation building which includes women power, yuva shakti, kissan shakti and garin kalyan.
Sawant said that the Bills like reservation for women in Parliament is a clear step towards women empowerment in the country.
“The kind of progammes that have been introduced for yuva shakti are aiming for the welfare of youth force,” he said adding that human resource is created through the policies like National Education policy by the centre.
Speaking about the farmers, Sawant said that the central government, for the first time, has introduced a concept of checking health of the soil, like any human being, which will help the farmers.
“The schemes are also introduced to provide free ration to the poor and needy. One nation, one ration will also help the poor and needy to get the benefit even after relocating to other state,” he added.
