Vishwajit Rane visits Rama Kankonkar at GMC

Bambolim: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday met social activist Rama Kankonkar, who is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital after being brutally assaulted by a group of six people.

Rane, accompanied by senior officials of Goa Medical College and Hospital, met Kankonkar in the ward where he has been admitted since the assault on September 18.

I met Rama Kankonkar in the ward. GMCH has formed a special committee to oversee his treatment. He is being given the treatment that is needed, Rane told reporters.

He added that the best quality of treatment is being provided to Kankonkar.

When asked whether Kankonkar would be discharged soon, Rane said that the doctors will take the call after assessing his health condition and consulting his family members.

The environmental activist was brutally assaulted on September 18 at Caranzalem, near Panaji. He was accompanied by local journalist Soiru Velip when the attack took place.

Panaji police have arrested seven people, including history-sheeter Zenito Cardoso, in connection with the assault on the social activist.
