Panaji: Minister for Archives and Archaeology Vijai Sardesai will chair a crucial meeting on the ongoing controversy on ‘Adopt of Heritage’s scheme that has identified 17 monuments and sites in Goa for development through private parties.
The meeting will be attended by the Minister for Tourism Manohar Azgaonkar, Chief Secretary IAS Dharmendra Sharma, officials of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), church authorities, department of archives and archaeology and other government officials.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 12.00noon in Secretariat at Porvorim.
“Will have detail discussion in the meeting and will issue statement to press thereafter,” Minister said adding the today’s meeting was scheduled last week itself.
Congress party on Sunday through documentary evidence revealed that State Tourism Ministry along with Ministry for Archives and Archaeology had identified and proposed 17 sites in Goa under the Central government scheme.
In his immediate reaction, Sardessai had said that he is not aware of correspondence by Director Archives. “We will take some firm stand on the matter during the meeting. Heritage needs to be protected at any cost,” he stated.
