Vijai Sardesai takes on CM over his Books over Bar remark

Margao: Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai has said that the chief minister after cutting budgetary allocation for libraries in this budget is talking of Read India and promoting library culture.

Sardesai pointed out that the allocationfor purchase of books for school library has been cut from Rs 50 lakh last year to zero, this year.

The allocation for setting up of modern library in higher education colleges was 28 last year, now it is 20. For development of library and reading culture Rs 2.5 lakh last year and this year it is Rs 0.50 lakh.

Grants to Libraries of Private initiatives has been reduced from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 15 lakh while Development of Library movement has seen lesser budgatory allocation from Rs 20 lah to Rs 15 lakh.

The payment of Grants to voluntary organization library has been reduced from Rs 2.75crore to Rs 2.5 crore. And capital expenditure in libraries is reduced from Rs 2 crore to Rs 10 lakh.
