Porvorim: During Question Hour in the Goa Legislative Assembly today, Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai raised concerns about the low honorarium paid to Anganwadi workers in Goa, comparing it with other states.

He stated that in Goa, Anganwadi workers are paid ₹5,500 (0–10 years of experience), ₹6,000 (10–15 years), ₹8,000 (15–20 years), ₹10,000 (20–25 years), and ₹12,000 (25+ years).

Sardesai pointed out that this is much lower than the payments in other states. For example, Kerala pays ₹8,000 after five years and ₹8,500 after ten years, Delhi pays ₹8,220, Tamil Nadu pays ₹10,502, and Andhra Pradesh pays ₹7,000.

“Goa has a high cost of living, but our Anganwadi workers—especially those with less than 20 years of service—are paid less than their counterparts in many other states,” Sardesai said.

He urged the government to increase the honorarium and ensure fair pay for Anganwadi workers, who play a crucial role in childcare, nutrition, and women’s welfare.
