Panaji: After writing to UNESCO World Heritage Centre and International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai has now raised the matter of governement of India’s Ministry of Culture raising concerns over the government’s permission to construct high-rise structures and several other developmental projects at Old Goa.
In a similar letter that was sent to the international bodies, Sardesai on Tuesday addressed the issue to Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Prahlad Singh Patel on preservation of buildings and high-rise developments at Old Goa.
Seeking intervention of the national institution, Sardesai demanded that Old Goa be declared a Heritage Zone, as proposed by numerous archeological and engineering experts that have raised this issue since 2015 and have offered viable solutions and strategies to protect and preserve the World Heritage Sites of Goa.
