Porvorim: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Monday stated that the state police have been instructed to conduct a drive to ensure 100% tenant verification within their respective jurisdictions. Sawant mentioned that those who fail to verify the identity of their tenants at the local police station before October 10 will be fined ₹10,000, and a case will also be registered against them.
He noted that the decision for 100% tenant verification was made during a meeting on Sunday attended by top police officials. The chief minister explained that this strict verification process aims to control crime in the state. “There is no doubt that the state police have a 98% crime detection rate, but the fact remains that many individuals coming from outside are involved in crime in Goa,” he said. He added that police teams often have to travel outside the state to trace suspects. “To avoid this situation, tenant verification has been made mandatory,” he stated.
