Vasco: The work of replanting trees on Swatantra path which were cut after residents started complaining about them and thereafter they being declared dangerous by the Disaster management committee headed by Deputy collector Mormugao started today in the presence of Mormugao municipal council Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar, City councillor Krishna Daji Salkar , Uday Binagekar, Oscar fernandes ,Sushant mahale,Sameer walke and others .
It may be recalled that the trees which were nearly 100 years old had to be cut as they were falling down without any wind or rain suggesting that these trees had lived their life.
The City councillor taking note of this immediately wrote to the Municipality that immediate action should be taken before any tragedy or human loss takes place. The disaster management committee was immediately informed about the gravity of the situation and upon inspection by the said committee and after proper survey by the Forest department the Deputy Collector who heads the Disaster Management committee passed an order that the trees were to be cut or trimmed. Keeping this in mind the trees identified as dangerous in the report were cut.
City Ward councillor Daji Salkar who was instrumental in supervising the cutting of trees informed us that he had immediately put up a proposal to the Forest department for replanting of trees that had been cut .
In fact the Forest minister had written to the Deputy conservator of forests for replanting of the same but then the project fell into cold storage due to the political interference and revenge politics which was being carried out against Sakar.
When these trees were cut my first priority was to get them replanted as all Vascokars have had an emotional connect with the tree lined Swatantra Path.Sadly that could not happen as politically things were not in his favour.Salkar produced letters from the forest department regarding his replanting proposal. He also said that the whole of vasco knows the harassment meted out to him and his supporters for the last 3 years infact none of my projects were approved or were blocked at every stage so that I do not come into the limelight or get political mileage “
Salkar questioned the motive behind the challenge put forth by the ex chairperson Deepak Naik asking what stopped him from replantation if he was so concerned about the citizens of vasco and vasco city in general where was he for all these 3 years when he was in power as Chairperson MMC with the government and the Vasco MLA by his side and all resources at his disposal.
Salkar further said that in the meeting held on 26th october 2018 it was decided to do replantation from private sponsors which has been recorded in the minutes and which was very well attended by Naik. .This shows that he was either inattentive during the meeting or made this challenge to hide his inefficiency .
Salkar also said that Vascokars had been fooled for the last 7 years with not even a single development project being done in Vasco when the entire Mormugao taluka was buzzing with development.
Salkar further said that the new council is a development oriented council and the citizens will see new and better things in vasco in our tenure in the coming days. Salkar thanked the people of vasco for the faith in him and said that he would work in the best interest of Vasco
