Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the introduction of value education into the school curriculum has led to a marked improvement in the behaviour of both students and teachers.
Sawant was addressing online a group of students and teachers to review the value education, called as Mulyavardhan, introduced in the schools in association with Shantilal Muttha Foundation, a non-profit organisation on Saturday.
The chief minister said that six years back, the state government has introduced value education in Government higher secondary and high schools for the students.
“The teachers are trained for the purpose so that they can impart value education to the students. In the last six years, we have lot of improvement in the behaviour of the students and teachers with the implementation of value education in the schools,” he commented.
In his one hour long address, the chief minister said that the concept of value education was introduced by Shantilal Muttha Foundation in Goa, and now it is adopted by rest of the states.
“When we speak about value education, it includes Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity,” he said adding that the students should be taught through activity based learning.
He said that till 80,000 students encompassing 450 schools and 2,700 teachers are trained under this initiative.
“The programme is implemented breaking language barriers. The education is provided in the schools which has Marathi, Hindi, English and even Urdu as the language of teaching,” the chief minister said.
Sawant said that the value education teaches the students how to behave at home, in the school and also in the society. He said that the value education includes aspects like waste management, personal hygiene, road safety and yoga.
The students have started contributing for the waste management initiative, they are also taught about the personal hygiene, he said.
“The education on road safety is important as at least one life is lost everyday in Goa in road accident,” he added.
The chief minister said that as far as Yoga is concerned, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken it to global level.
“The introduction of yoga will help the students. During the daily assembly, the schools should ask students to practice Yoga for 15-20 minutes which will also help in their concentration,” he said
The state government has managed to give at least one modern classroom in each school. The education on coding and robotics is also introduced in the school covering 65,000 students, the chief minister said.
Sawant said that the state education department is monitoring all the schools. More than 2 lakh students and teachers are monitored on daily basis, he added.
Referring to the complaints of beating of students in the classrooms, Sawant said “I feel bad that some times the police complaint is filed against teachers for assaulting students in the class. I appeal the teachers to adopt value education which will help to reduce such kind of incidents.”
The teachers should not expect the students to be all rounders but instead should concentrate on their core strength, he added.
