Use multipurpose cyclone shelter, Fire station at Porvorim as covid care centre: Rohan Khaunte

Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday wrote to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urging him to use multipurpose cyclone shelter and fire station at Porvorim as covid care centre due to possibility of third wave.

“I strongly recommend that the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter (MPCS) & Fire Station (FS) at Porvorim be completed on priority which otherwise is due for completion on 31 May 2021,” Khaunte said.

“I take this platform to share my suggestions, which I strongly believe, if implemented, would help change the mortality logistics in the State of Goa during the forthcoming Third Wave,” he said.

Khaunte said that opening the Fire Station at Porvorim with all infrastructural facilities, vehicles and machinery which will ensure the readiness of the Constituency to tackle any calamities or like events.

“Conversion of the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter (MPCS) into a Specialized COVID Care Centre with a separate Paediatric Unit/ Wing. The Centre should be equipped with necessary infrastructure, staff, medical professionals and medicines which will ensure that all medical emergencies in and around the Constituency can be attended with minimum turnaround time.”

“These facilities can be provided by the Government or in the alternative, the same can be sourced through the CSR funds of private companies. This will additionally ensure that the Government or Health Department of the State are not over burdened with area wise expenses.”

“Therefore, by this letter, I pledge the complete support of all my resources to the

COVID cause and urge your High Office to take immediate action on my recommendations which will help the Government strategize for the Third Wave and also help bring down the COVID count in the State.”
