Porvorim: Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry did not provide any financial assistance for hosting International Film Festival of India’s 2017 edition, as against their stand during earlier year.
State chief minister Pramod Sawant, in a written reply tabled on the floor of the House, said that no contribution was received from the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and Directorate of Film Festivals for International Film Festival of India for IFFI 2017.
As per the reply, Rs 3.24 crore were contributed by I&B ministry for 2016 edition of IFFI, an annual event held in Goa since the year 2004.
The union ministry had also not contributed anything for the 2015 edition while for IFFI 2014, Rs 1.65 crore were paid to the state to host the festival.
Sawant told the House that state received sponsorship worth Rs 67.15 lakh for IFFI 2017, while it was Rs 47.45 lakh for 2016 edition.
The chief minister said that Rs 17.44 crore were spent on hosting IFFI 2017 while Rs 22.62 crore were spent for 2016 edition.
