Panaji: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the figure of unemployment in Goa, as pointed out by NITI Aayog is inaccurate, as there are several of them already gainfully employed.

Talking to reporters in Panaji on Thursday, Sawant said that there are several names on the rolls of the state –run Employment Exchange, who have got the job but are waiting for the government jobs, by not cancelling their names.

“NITI Aayog has stated that there are 1.10 lakh unemployed youth in Goa. The figure is not correct,” the chief minister said.

He said that 80,000 are already employed but have not cancelled their names in the Employment Exchange because they are waiting for a government job.

He said that names of some government servants also figure in the list. Sawant said that the State government will work-out a system  to cancel the names of the people who are already employed.

The chief minister said “as per the information, only 20,000 youth are unemployed,” he added.

Meanwhile,  On wedensday, Sawant held a meeting with NITI Aayog Team in Panaji in presene of NITI Ayog member Dr V K Saraswat, State chief secretary and other secretaries.

After the meeting, Sawant tweeted that NITI Aayog lauded the Goa Electric Mobility promotion policy, adoption of emerging technologies and other policies of Goa government.

“NITI Aayog elaborated on how it can support the state under State Support Mission. With enhanced coordination and advisory support from NITI the state surely can develop in multiple sectors,” he said in another tweet.
