Miramar: Various leaders, including Governor P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, paid tributes to former Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on his death anniversary.
Leaders paid homage at his memorial at Miramar Beach, where he was laid to rest after his demise on March 17, 2019.
The Governor, speaking about Parrikar, recalled the key role he played in enabling the inclusion of women in defence training. He said Parrikar had supported the idea of inducting girl cadets in a phased manner once the National Defence Academy was opened to women.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Goa will always remember Parrikar for the all-round development of the state. He added that the government continues to carry forward his legacy: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant
Other leaders, including Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, also paid tributes to Parrikar.
Later, a portrait of the late leader was unveiled at the State Legislative Assembly complex by the Chief Minister in the presence of Deputy Speaker Joshua D’Souza.
