Panaji: The trade unions in Goa held a symbolic protest in Panaji in support to the Nationwide Protest against Agnipath scheme called by Samyukt Kisan Morcha on Friday.
The Goa State Committee of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) led the protest which was participated held at Azad Maidan in Panaji.
AITUC leader Raju Mangueshkar told reporters that all central trade unions have taken note of the wide spread anger and unrest being reflected in numerous demonstrations of youth and other sections of people surged spontenously throughout the country against the Agnipath scheme designed to degenerate and casualise the quality of employment in country’s armed forces through fixed term contract, that too without any pensionery benefit, not to speak of post retirement medical and other social security.
AITUC General Secretary Christopher Fonseca said that Agnipath scheme has dashed the hope of those who had appeared for military selection exams and those who are looking for stable employment in Indian Armed Forces. Such a scheme will severely denegerate the quality of employment in our country’s armed forces and will be damaging and disastrous for our country’s security and combative preparedness, he said.
