Panaji : Taxi leader Bappa Koregaokar along with his supporters met the Deputy Director of Transport after the government issued a circular making taxi meters mandatory.
The taxi operators argued that there is no availability of meters yet they are expected to fit meters on thier taxis. “The Government informed us that 32 crore rupees have been alloted to fit meters in taxis but now the Government is changing their stand by saying taxi operators should pay for the meters” charged Korgaokar.
“Third wave of COVID19 is supposed to hit the state and if meters are installed how will we earn money ?” asked Korgaokar
Dy Director of Transport told taxi operators that this was not the case and the cost incurred by them while fitting the taxi metres would be refunded.
The Taxi operators led by Bappa Korgaokar were adamant on their demands that they neither want a GPS system in their taxis nor panic buttons . They reiterated to scrap GoaMiles and they will fit meters.
