Panaji: Amidst rising cases of COVID-19, Goa government on Wedneday announced three day long total lockdown in the state from Friday onwards.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told reporters that there will be lockdown in the state from Thursday (July 16) night 8 pm till Monday ( July 20) 6 a.m.
He said that the lockdown has been necessitated considering the COVID-19 positive cases peaking in the state.
Sawant also said that there will be Janata Curfew in the state from 8 p.m. till 6 a.m. from today (Wednesday) onwards till August 10.
The chief minister said that the number of cases have been on rise, while people are not abiding by the guidelines of social distancing and wearing the masks. He said that more than 40,000 people have been fined for not wearing the mask.
The chief minister stated that the number of cases are expected to peak during next few days due to continued rains.
“We are expecting the spike between July 15-20,” he said.
He said that except medical emergencies and people associated with essential services will be allowed to move during the lockdown period and also Janata Curfew.
Sawant said that the state will set up covidcare facilities across all the talukas.
“ Somewhere we need to be more strict. There shold be awareness and discipline amongst people.
Till there is discipline, people will not abide by the norms,” he said.
