Panaji: Despite the positivity rate reducing in the coastal state, the experts have predicted that the third wave may hit the coastal state in next one-and-half month.

“The experts have predicted there are 90 per cent chances of third wave will come in a month and half even in our state,” Dr Shivanand Bandekar, Head of Experts’ Committee on COVID-19 told Hub Encounter.

Bandekar, who is also Dean of Goa Medical College and Hospital, said that the state government has not let its guard down though there is decreased positivity rate.

Goa reported 19 per cent positivity rate on Monday, which is a much improvement from the positivity rate of 51 per cent reported a fortnight ago.

Bandekar said that the experts have predicted that besides the age group of below 18 years, the third wave is also likely to impact the pockets in the state’s rural areas.

“The prediction is because till now adults from urban areas have been infected. There is heard immunity to certain extend,” he said.

Bandekar said that the virus will now try to find a new host.

Based on his experience of mortality, Bandekar said that the vaccination is the best solution. “Even if you get infected after vaccination, the severity is very low,” he added.

“Very few people who have taken both the vaccines have expired. Those who have expired after taking both the vaccines is because they had high comorbidity,” Bandekar said.

He said that during the the second wave, the people have died either due to comorbity or severity of the infection. “Even the patients who were younger in age, we have lost them because of severity. This vaccine will definitely protect us from all mutants,” Bandekar commented.

He said that after reporting 12 initial cases of Black Fungus, there were no fresh patients with the disease reported in the state.

CAN’T SAY THAT DEATHS IN GMCH WERE DUE TO OXYGEN

“I never mentioned about dark hours. Everywhere in the country it was reported that people die in the night, there are reports in Chennai and Hyderabad. We had told the court about requirement of the oxygen.”

“I cannot say that the people died due to lack of oxygen. Covid19 patients were critical. They were with the severity.”

“Even I have shown statistics that the deaths were not only in night, they spread over 24 hours. Now we have all the required oxygen but still we lost patients. We can’t fix one factor and say that the people died due to Oxygen.”
