MAPUSA: A 46-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly throwing acid on a 17-year-old boy, whom he blamed for the death of his minor daughter following the end of their relationship, police said on Monday.

Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta said that Nilesh Dessai, a resident of the Dodamarg area in Sindhudurg taluka, Maharashtra, was arrested on Monday for allegedly throwing acid on a 17-year-old boy. The incident occurred the same day in Dhargal, North Goa, while the boy was waiting to go to school.

The boy sustained burnt injuries after which he was immediately shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital.

Gupta stated that the accused has confessed to the crime, citing that his daughter died following the end of her relationship with the 17-year-old victim.

He said that the victim was in relationship with the accused’s minor daughter. Both victim and his minor daughter were studying together in Higher secondary school in mapusa.

The SP said that the accused told the investigating officer that he had stolen five litres of acid can from the company in Goa where he was working on Friday and had hidden it in his scooter.

The accused has been booked under various sections of BNS and Section 8 (2) of Goa Children’s Act.
