The mining dependents can have restrain till Dec 15, GMPF warns BJP

Ponda:  Goa Mining People’s Front, an umbrella organization of the affected people, on Wednesday cautioned that the affected people might resort to violence to vent out their frustration, if the issue is not settled by December 15.

GMPF has said that they can restrain the people till December 15 from resorting to any chaotic situation as BJP leaders have assured to move an amendment to existing Mining Law to resume the mining activity.

The mining dependents have also decided to hold stage-in at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on December 11, 12 and 13, on the days when Parliament will be in Session, to attract national attention towards the issue of mining closure which has affected nearly three lakh people living in the Goa.

GMPF President Puti Gaonkar said that the mining dependents have been exercising severe restraint by keeping faith in the BJP-led government in the Centre.

The BJP leaders have promised to amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act so as to ensure that the mining resumes in the State, he said.
