Candolim: The Candolim Panchayat, Candolim villagers and Candolim entrepreneurs [shack owners and restaurateurs], collaborated today on a massive clean up operation of the 11 wards of the Village, – nicknamed ‘The Great Candolim Clean Up’.
Their goal is to make it the Cleanest Village in Goa, – despite trash, garbage and construction waste being dumped by mischievous elements from outside the Village and, environmentally destructive and illegal septic waste discharge under the watch of non performing authorities.
For ‘The Great Candolim Clean Up’, – the Candolim Panchayat provided the labour force, implements, transportation and logistics, while the business owners were on the ground providing direction, additional supervision, snacks, food, water, and a lending hand. (This can serve as a template for the rest of Goa, for all street projects.)
Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes and his team, have committed to installing Bio toilets for the grouped shacks on the beach, with proper septic waste discharge systems. These Bio toilets will be for the exclusive use of those working in beach shacks and providing services on the beach.
The Candolim Panchayat deems the abandoned Public toilet (which has deteriorated into a slum and is discharging septic waste onto the beach), – as defunct and a Public Health Hazard, and will accordingly request the Directorate of Health Services to have it sealed, so that it can be rectified, repaired, renovated and managed at global standards.
‘The Great Candolim Clean Up’ will soon be institutionalised, and serve as a template for collaborative action across Goa, – to revive the State’s tourism & Environmental assets and ensure business continuity beyond 2030 for tourism stakeholders.
