Panaji: The protest against the controversial section in state Town and Country Planning Act entered the fourth day on Tuesday.
Revolutionary Goans Party MLA Viresh Borkar, who is leading the protest, joined the strike on Tuesday, after spending night in a private hospital.
Borkar was shifted to a private hospital on Monday night after his health started deteriorating, during his fast unto death.
RGP President Manoj Parab told reporters on Tuesday that the MLA refused to stay in the hospital and joined the protest back at Azad Maidan in Panaji.
“The MLA has said that he will not withdraw the agitation till section 39A of the Town and Country Planning Act is repealed,” he said.
The controversial section gives right to the TCP department to convert non-settlement areas into settlement zones, without considering the parent Act.
The protests against the Act began on Friday when a group of villagers from Palem-Siridao in St Andre constituency marched to the office of the Town and country planning department. They had alleged that the hills in their village were being converted under this controversial section.
While the protestors stayed back entire night in the office demanding scrapping of the section.
On Saturday, MLA Borkar, who led the protestors, was dragged out of the TCP office. The MLA later began his fast unto death since Saturday at Azad Maidan.
He was supported by the opposition leaders including Congress’ leader of opposition Yuri Alemao, Goa Pradesh Congress committee vice president Sunil Kawthankar, AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai and others.
The protestors on Monday marched to the private residence of State town and country planning minister vishwajit Rane at Dona Paula, near Panaji.
After protesting in front of his house for almost three hours, they later returned back to Azad Maidan on Monday night.
