Panjim, 14 July 2025 – In a landmark moment for inclusive leadership, the Rotary Club of Bardez Coastal officially installed Rtn. Taha Haaziq — who is 100% blind — as its Club President for the Rotary year 2025–26. The installation ceremony, held on Sunday, 13 July at Terminal Hall, Caculo Mall, Panaji, witnessed the presence of dignitaries, Rotarians, and well-wishers from across Goa.

Chief Guest Subhash Phal Dessai, Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, praised the historic appointment: “Taha Haaziq’s presidency is a powerful affirmation that leadership transcends physical ability. It is a message to institutions across India — make your leadership inclusive.”

Haaziq’s appointment marks a first in Rotary International District 3170 — which comprises 147 clubs — and sets a milestone under the dynamic leadership of District Governor 2025–26, Rtn. Arun Bhandare.

In his address, Taha stated, “When I step into this role, I carry not just my ability but the belief that inclusion is our greatest asset. Being the first 100% blind person to serve as president here shows what’s possible when we remove barriers and open opportunities.”

He further emphasized Rotary’s inclusive mission: “We’re not just opening doors; we’re widening them so everyone can walk through.”

The event aligns with the themes of Rotary International — Unite for Good — and District 3170’s focus on Creating Legacy.

Taha Haaziq currently serves as Secretary to the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Goa, where he plays a pivotal role in disability advocacy, accessibility reforms, and policy implementation across the state.

Also installed during the event were Rtn. Bhuwan Poudel as Club Secretary and Rtn. Ramesh Singh as Treasurer, completing the Board of Directors for 2025–26.

Installing Officer PDG Rtn. Gaurish Dhond remarked, “Rotary’s core is service and breaking new ground. With Taha at the helm, Bardez Coastal will challenge stereotypes and champion true inclusion.”

Other attendees included Rtn. Ramesh Tiwari (Assistant Governor 2025–26), Rtn. Ajay Menon (Governor’s Special Representative), Rtn. Irfan Zaki (Outgoing President 2024–25), and Rtn. Jitendra Prasad (Outgoing Secretary).

The evening concluded with a fellowship session, celebrating community service and the spirit of inclusive leadership.
