Panaji: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan asserted on Saturday the need to switch to organic fertilizers to save the soil from being infertile and also for the betterment of the health of humans.
“Gradually, we have to switch towards organic farming. The usage of chemical fertilizers is affecting the soil. If there is uninterrupted usage of chemical fertilizers and pesticides the soil will turn infertile. It is also bad for human health,” Chouhan said, interacting virtually with Goa farmers and Swayampurna mitras on Saturday.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant joined the interaction from Goa, which was aired across all the panchayats, municipalities, and zonal agricultural offices on Saturday morning.
During the interaction, Chouhan congratulated Sawant-led government for providing thrust on the organic farming in the coastal state by providing various subsidies.
Speaking about Goa government’s Swayampurna Goa scheme, the union minister sai that the scheme is an example of how the government can use available resources and encourage the government officers to explore to the maximum potential available in the state.
He said that Swayampurna Goa concept is not only limited to Goa but can be emulated by the other states too.
The minister recalled that PM Narendra Modi during CM’s conference (when Chouhan was CM) had made presentation about Swayampurna Goa appealing all the chief ministers to emulate it in their respective states.
During the interaction, Chouhan said that PM Narendra Modi does not only think about the present but has a vision for the country. He has given everyone a target to work for Vikasit Bharat by 2047.
He said that the PM has presented the roadmap of Vikasit Bharat before the union cabinet during recently held meeting.
Speaking about Goa, the union minister assured Goa CM Sawant that the central government will work hand in hand with the state to implement various centrally sponsored schemes.
“The roadmap for the farmers is clear. We have to double the income of the farmers, which can be done only by increasing the production,” he added.
