Swami Vivekanand Vidyaprasarak Mandal’s College of Commerce, Borim-Ponda, through its Department of Library, in association with the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, is proud to announce a two-day National Workshop titled Smart Tools, Smarter Services: A Hands-On Workshop for Librarians. The event will be held from 19th to 20th January 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall, Directorate of Art and Culture, Patto, Panjim.
The workshop, organised by the college’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of Library and Information Science, aims to empower library professionals with modern technological skills and innovative strategies to enhance library services and foster inclusive access. It will feature hands-on training sessions led by eminent resource persons, including Dr. Sangeeta Kaul, Director of DELNET (Developing Library Network), New Delhi, and other experts from the field. Key focus areas will include AI-based cataloguing systems, institutional repositories, computer literacy solutions for visually impaired users, and best practices for creating accessible and user-friendly library environments.
This workshop is designed to bridge the gap between traditional library services and the demands of the digital age, said Mrs. Sonia Mukesh Desai, Workshop Convener and College Librarian. We aim to equip librarians with smart tools that enable smarter, more inclusive services for all users.
Principal of the college, Prof. Achut Pednekar, urged library professionals to participate actively. In today’s rapidly evolving information landscape, continuous learning is essential. This workshop offers a valuable opportunity for library professionals to update their skills, grow in their profession, and ultimately deliver the best possible services to their users.
