Suresh Prabhu meets Parrikar, discusses developmental works

Dona Paula: Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday met Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at his private residence, where the latter is recuperating from pancreatic related ailment.

 

Prabhu who arrived at the residence of the chief minister in the afternoon was in a meeting with him for around one hour.

 

“The agenda for meeting was about the overall development of the State. The thought was given on what more could be done for the development of Goa,” Prabhu told reporters emerging from the meeting.

 

He said that recently the convention of investors was held in Goa, which needs to be followed up. “We want Goa to have environment friendly industries, which will create more job opportunities,” the minister said.

 

Earlier during the day, Prabhu also met State Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai.

 

Prabhu said that his meeting with Sardesai was about encouraging agricultural production in the State. “Central government has launched various schemes which can be used to increase agricultural production in the State,” he said.

 

He said that the issue of resumption of mining was also discussed during both the meetings.

 

“I have made it clear that whatever decision Goa government takes on the mining will be followed up with the Central government,” he said.

 

The Iron Ore mining industry in Goa has come to standstill after Supreme Court quashed 88 mining leases.
