Panaji: In the aftermath of the tragic incident at the Birch by Romeo Lane night club in Arpora, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, Surajya Abhiyan has submitted a complaint-cum-representation to the District Collector of North Goa. The organisation has urged strict and decisive action against illegal night clubs operating in the state, posing a grave threat to public safety.
The representation highlights that the incident exposed serious deficiencies in enforcement, monitoring, and compliance with mandatory public safety and fire safety norms. It also revealed that several night clubs and party venues across Goa are operating without the requisite licences, fire safety clearances, approved occupancy limits, and essential safety infrastructure.
While acknowledging that the administration has initiated certain measures after the incident, Surajya Abhiyan stated that post-facto action is inadequate. The organisation emphasised the urgent need for a robust, transparent, and permanent preventive framework to ensure public safety across the state.
Accordingly, Surajya Abhiyan has urged the authorities to hold the management of the concerned establishment accountable, as well as officials responsible for lapses. It has also requested an immediate statewide re-audit of all night clubs and party venues, initiation of criminal proceedings against violators, and formulation and strict enforcement of uniform guidelines governing such establishments.
