Panaji: The sugarcane farmers who were protesting at Azad Maidan in Panaji were arrested when they started marching towards the official residence of the chief minister at Altinho.
The farmers are demanding restarting of Sanjivani Sugar Factory at Dayanandnagar, Usgao.
The farmers who had started agitating outside the factory premises on January 2 had shifted their protest to Panaji from today onwards. They were demanding that chief minister should visit them and give an assurance.
The protestors were taken in custody as a preventive arrest . Social workers Pratima Coutinho and Rama Kankonkar were also present amongst the farmers, who were arrested.
