Porvorim: The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday fixed the arguments in the matter regarding the anticipatory bail plea by former Goa RSS chief Subhash Velingkar for Monday, as the lawyer representing the petitioner stated that he would appear before the investigating officer today (Thursday).
The anticipatory bail plea filed by Velingkar came up for hearing on Thursday before a single bench comprising Justice B.P. Deshpande.
The lawyer representing Velingkar said that he is ready to cooperate with the police, provided there is assurance from the police that he would not be arrested.
The lower court on Monday had rejected Velingkar’s anticipatory bail plea, who is booked for hurting religious sentiments over his statement about the patron saint of Goa, St. Francis Xavier.
The state public prosecutor told the High Court on Thursday that they would not arrest Velingkar if he cooperates with the investigating officer.
The judge later fixed the matter for hearing on Monday.
During the hearing today, four intervention petitions were filed before the bench. AAP MLA Cruz Silva, represented by advocate Amit Palekar, former Congress leader Valanka Alemao, and Congress leader Warren Alemao were among those who moved the intervention petitions.
