Panaji: The land deal executed by former Congress MLA Subhash Shirodkar allegedly amounting to Rs 70 Crore is getting murkier. In an interesting and stunning revelation, it has come to light that the part of the land has already been mortgaged to a Bank by employees of Shirodkar in return of a loan of Rs 10 lakh each.

Social Activist Aires Rodrigues, who is following up this case with Lokayukta, toldwww.goanewshub.comthat nine employees of Shirodkar have apparently shown the land in their name, and mortgaged it to Shiroda Urban Cooperative Bank to get a loan of Rs 10 lakh each.

The distribution of loan happened in the year 2013 which was approved by Board of Director of the Bank, which is headed by Shirodkar himself.

The loan amount has not been re-paid and it has  accumulated to Rs 1.30 crore.

This means when Industries Department acquired the land at Shiroda, it was already mortgaged to the Bank. The Industries Department did not follow the proper procedure of checking the background of the land, which is admeasuring around 1,83,525 sqaure metres.

The loans were given by the bank to nine persons – Prakash Anand Naik, Pradip Arjun Korgaonkar, Rajendra Gaude, Shivdas Ganesh Naik, Deepali Deepak Borkar, Ramdas Dadu Naik, Dinesh Krishna Gaude, Dilip Babai Naik and Dhaklu R Ghadi.

This issue is likely to come before Goa Lokayukta tomorrow when Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma will represent the State in response to the petition filed by Rodrigues.

Going by the revelation, the entire issue smacks of a fraud, and is likely to cause further trouble for Shirodkar.
