Panaji: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant told the House on Monday that the state police will keep a strict check on state borders to ban import of Ganesh Idols made out of Plaster of Paris.
The state has banned the use of Ganesh Idols carved out of Plaster of Paris for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

The issue was raised on the floor of the House by BJP MLA Premendra Shet who sought to know what action the state government intends to take against the Plaster of Paris idols.
Sawant said that the state police would be ordered to keep a strict vigil on the state borders to stop import of these idols in the state.

Participating in the discussion, State Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira appealed the members to bring to his notice, if any shop is selling the PoP idols.
“If you inform me, I will take immediate action,” he said.
