Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today announced government’s plan to have tie-up between the Institute of Psychiatry & Human Behaviour (IPHB) Goa and National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore in improving the mental health care facilities in the State.
Rane was speaking during the inauguration of ‘Mental Health Week’, organized by IPHB. The theme of the event is ‘Suicide Prevention’.
Rane said that he will be travelling to Bangalore tonight, wherein he would met director of NIMHANS Dr BN Gangadhar and hold talks for tie up with the institutions.
“In order to provide the best mental health care treatment and facilities, it is very important to have experts on board. We need to tie up with a institutions to establish the highest standards of evidence-based care for pyschiatric and neuorlogical disorders,” he said.
He lamented that people look at IPHB as a stigma; but that should not be the case.
