Panaji: Hours after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tweeted informing the public about extension of state-wide curfew till June 07, 2021, both the District Collectors on Saturday issued the formal notice vetting his decision.
The North and South District Collectors in their respective orders have said that the curfew that was imposed till 7 am on May 31, 2021 is further extended till 7 am on June 07, 2021 due to pandemic situation in the state.
The order reads “surge in COVID-19 cases is being witnessed in Goa and other parts of the country, and the situation might further aggravate due to public gatherings and active interactions along with high positivity rate.”
The District Collectors have further said “in order contain the spread of the said pandemic, certain measures were undertaken and more are required to prevent the further spread of the disease.”
The corona virus inducted curfew was initially imposed from May 09 till May 24 but was later extended up to May 31.
This is the second extended given to the curfew period by the state government which is fighting back the covid positivity rate of 21 per cent.
State chief minister Pramod Sawant had told reporters on Friday evening that the positive rate has dropped to 21 (twenty one) per cent in the state but efforts are on to reduce it further.
State is also bracing up for the third wave of COVID-19, which is likely to affect the children.
The current order of the state-wide curfew has stated that all the shops will remain shut except those selling essential items, who can conduct business from 7 am to 1 pm.
The pharmacies and health related facilities remain unaffected with the curfew orders.
Restaurant kitchens can operate between 7 am to 7 pm during the curfew period.
