Special IAF drive for Goan youth to join the force: Shripad Naik

Panaji: With lesser youth from Goa taking armed forces as their career option, Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik on Tuesday said that the attempts would made to encourage them join this challenging professional opportunities.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Naik said that the initiatives like Know Your Army would be held in Goa along with the camp of recruitment into Indian Air Force (IAF) providing opportunities for local youth to make career in the forces.

Naik is a member of parliament from North Goa parliamentary constituency.

“Goan youth prefer to join police service but there is no enthusiasm to be part of coveted armed forces. The attempts would be made to attract them towards this career option,” the union minister said.

He said that Goan youth fits in the fitness and intelligence criterias required for defence forces. “They have capability to serve the nation,” he said.

Naik said that the special recruitment drive of Indian Air Force would be held in Goa on August 27-30, while there are also plans to host Know Your Army programme over next five to six months.

The union minister said that after the drives, at least 500 youth will be joining armed forces from Goa.
