Panaji: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Wednesday said that he will take clarity on the position of Leader of Opposition on Thursday.

Tawadkar, who was in the national capital when a group of eight Congress MLAs passed resolution to merge Congress Legislative Party in BJP, rushed to his office upon his arrival in Goa on Wednesday evening.

The Speaker said that he has gone through the resolution letter given by a group of eight Congress MLAs and has approved it.

The Goa Legislative Assembly is currently facing a piquant situation wherein the Congress party, which is state’s main opposition, is not having adequate number to stake claim for the post of Leader of Opposition.

For any political party to stake claim for the post of Leader of Opposition, should have minimum ten percent, that is four MLAs of the total strength (40MLAs).

Tawadkar said that he would examine the technical aspect about the Leader of Opposition on Thursday. “I will examine the technical aspect tomorrow when I come back to the office,” he said.

Congress is left with only three MLAs while AAP with two MLAs becomes second largest opposition. Goa Forward party and Revolutionary Goans Party has one MLA each.
