Sonsodo meet: Vijai unhappy with meeting, Lobo says solution is coming soon

Panaji: While state government has formed a committee of engineers from MMC and Solid Waste Management Corporation to work out solution for Sonsodo plant, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has accused the government of adopting delaying tectic.

A high level meeting was held in Panaji on Friday which was participated by Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, MMC Chairperson Puja Naik amongst others.

Emerging from meeting, Sardesai said that he was not satisfied with the outcome of the meeting which has decided to form the committee.

“When you want to delay taking the decision, you form the committee. We want immediate solution for Sonsodo or else Plague in Surat like situation might arise,” he said.

Sardesai that Sonsodo was “unique” problem which demanded urgent solution.

Talking to reporters later, Lobo said that the solid waste management corporation will float expression of interest to select contractor for treating wet waste.

“The corporation has already started the work of remediation. Total 24,000 tones of waste has already been treated. MMC has also given us place to store treated waste,” he said.

The minister said that Fatorda MLA has to have patience. “We will soon appoint contractor to treat 30-35 tonnes of wet waste that arrives at Sonsodo,” he said.

Lobo said that government is currently treating the legacy waste that is there at Sonsodo.
