Porvorim: Panch members of Socorro panchayat, who had recently ousted Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar and his deputy sarpanch, has expressed apprehensions over the delay in calling meeting to elect the new chief for the body.
Panch Sandeep Manjrekar, who is amongst the six members, who voted in favour of the no-confidence motion, told reporters that authorities are delaying in calling for the meeting to elect new chief for Socorro Panchayat.
He apprehended that the delay is purposeful with the intention to bargain time to threaten or buy out panch members and reinstate Vazarkar in the chair.
Manjrekar stated that neither of the panch members will fall prey for such tactics as they strongly stand by their intent to throw the corrupt Sarpanch from his Chair.
“We are united under the leadership of local MLA Rohan Khaunte. The fight is against inefficiency and corruption,” he said.
Manjrekar pointed out that authorities were on overdrive when Salvador do Mundo Sarpanch was ousted, while in the case of Socorro, the process is going on at snail’s pace.
He alleged that there is complete interference of Chief Minister and the State government in the entire process. “Government by ignoring such a blatant injustice on the elected body is supporting the illegalities of Sarpanch,” Manjrekar said adding that they would be forced to take legal recourse, if government takes their silence for granted.
He has said that if there is delay, the panch members will hold corner meetings across all the eleven wards of panchayat exposing the government.
Manjrekar said that the Administrator, who is appointed on the panchayat, has been visiting office only for half an hour, forcing people to face inconvenience.
