Curchorem: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday distanced themselves from Sushant Naik, a councillor from Curchorem municipal council, whose son, Soham has been arrested in connection with the sex scandal, involving minor girls.
Police have arrested Soham on March 22, after which four different FIRs have been filed against him under POCSO Act, Goa Children’s Act, BNS and Information Technology Act. Goa Crime Branch is investigating the scandal, in which the 20-year-old accused was found to be raping the minor victims, filming them and circulating the obscene videos.
BJP’s former Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, addressing a press conference in Curchorem on Friday, claimed that Sushant Naik, father of the accused, is not a member of the party.
He said that he has gone through the list of all the members and it was found that Sushant Naik is not even a primary member of the BJP.
Tendulkar said that the media has been unnecessarily linking BJP with the scandal, wherein the government has given instruction to the police to act stringent against the accused.
“The act is shameful and in no way, the BJP is supporting it. We are condemning the act,” the former MP said.
He said that the investigation in the case is being done in an impartial way with police trying to reach out to the maximum victims.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer said that three victims have deposed before the police against the accused. All the three victims are minors, he said.
