Panaji: As against their earlier announcement, Shiv Sena has refrained from contesting in North Goa parliamentary seat for upcoming April 23 polls.

Sena’s Vice President Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik has filed her nomination from South Goa Parliamentary seat where she is pitted against BJP’s Narendra Sawaikar, Congress’ Francisco Sardinha and AAP’s Elvis Gomes.

Shiv Sena Goa Unit President Jitesh Kamat had announced that he would be contesting from North Goa Parliamentary seat, but has refrained from being in the fray.

Sena’s senior leader Sanjay Raut had held press conference last month in Panaji to declare his party’s foray in Lok Sabha elections in Goa.

Though Uddhav Thackrey led party has alliance with BJP in Maharashtra, the party has decided to contest against Amit Shah-led party in Goa.

Shiv Sena has no representation in Goa Legislative Assembly and has never won any Lok Sabha election in the coastal state.

When contacted, Kamat was not available for comments but sources stated that the Shiv Sena leader was upset as he had to face questions regarding double speak of the party vis-à-vis alliance with BJP is concerned.
