Porvorim, August 17, 2025: The recent Gram Sabha in Salvador do Mundo turned heated as villagers raised serious concerns about the village panchayat’s mismanagement. Major issues included non-collection of garbage, poor maintenance of public grounds, illegal construction, and lack of transparency in panchayat actions.
Rina Fernandes said the world-class football ground was built under MLA Shri. Rohan A. Khaunte was once well-maintained and even hosted international visitors. She added that now the panchayat is charging locals to use the grounds, stopping coaching programs, and spreading false messages against the MLA.
Dattaram Redkar pointed out that garbage is piling up in the village. He himself removed three truckloads of trash over the past 15 days and stressed that, despite garbage tax being collected by the panchayat, proper daily collection is still not being carried out and needs to be ensured.
Opposition members, as well as residents, demanded that the panchayat immediately act on garbage collection and make the village free from the bad smell of accumulated waste.
Residents also highlighted that fake news is being circulated by the village panchayat, causing confusion and unrest. They demanded that authorities identify and hold accountable those responsible for spreading misinformation.
