Reservation for ST community in 2027 Goa election is the decision of Union govt: CM

Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant told the House that reservation of Assembly seat for ST community by 2027 election is the decision of the Union government.

In a written reply tabled on the floor of the House, Sawant said that the proposal of the Government in respect to reservation for Scheduled Tribes Community during the next Assembly Elections is under the purview of Union Home Minister and Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department), New Delhi.
Independent MLA Anton Vas had tabled the question on political reservation for ST community in 2027 Goa Assembly election.

The chief minister said that the Model Code of Conduct was enforced between March 16, 2024 to June 10, 2024, hence now the matter shall be followed up with the
Government of India, further.

Sawant said the reservation of assembly seat for ST community by the next Assembly elections in 2027 is the decision/outcome of Union Government and Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department), New Delhi.

The ST community in the state are demanding reservation for the 2027 Assembly election. Goa has 40 seats of which four assemblies would be reserved for the ST community candidates, once reservation is announced.
