Panaji: Redkar Hospital at Pernem will begin the process of human trial of India’s first potential indigenous COVID-19 disease vaccine on Monday.
It is amongst the twelve facilities that are listed for human trials of Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech International Limited.
“We will select ten volunteers from Goa for the trial whose swab samples would be sent to AIIMS, Delhi before starting the actual trial on them tomorrow,” said Dr Dhananjay Lad, heading the trials at Redkar Hospital.
Twelve hospitals in different parts of the country are carrying out this test. “We are not randomizing. We are first checking their eligibility for the tests. We will be conducting the trials after we get reports from Delhi,” he said.
“Once the report will come all thing in normal limit. They will be eligible patient they will be ready for vaccination,” he said.
Lad said that the tests would be conducted on COVID-19 negative patients as the vaccine is meant for “preventive” purpose. “These are healthy volunteers,” he added.
